The praise came alongside two other sports-related Senate resolutions passed Tuesday.

The Senate approved Senate Resolutions 507, 508 and 509. Resolution 507 congratulates the Heat on winning the 2012 NBA championship, resolution 508 recognized "the teams and players of Negro League Baseball for their achievements, dedication, sacrifices, and contributions to baseball and the Nation" and 509 honors Kansas City, Mo., as the site for the 2012 Major League Baseball All-Star Game on July 10.

President Obama also congratulated the Heat during a fundraiser in Florida.

"Finally, it would be incomplete if I did not congratulate the city of Miami for having the world champion Miami Heats here in town. You guys earned it," Obama said at the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami on Tuesday.
