McConnell files amendment repealing Obama healthcare law

By Daniel Strauss - 07/11/12 11:51 AM ET

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) filed an amendment Tuesday that would repeal the Obama administration’s healthcare reform law.

The amendment, to the Small Business Jobs and Tax Relief Act (S. 2237), is essentially identical to legislation the Republican-controlled House is set to approve Wednesday.

“We are hoping to have a chance to vote on repealing ObamaCare again,” McConnell said. “I would remind you all that we had that vote in '11 -- 2011. Every single Republican voted to repeal it.

“We believe it's appropriate to have that vote again, and we'll be working to get that kind of vote in the near future,” he said.

In the Senate, however, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is unlikely to allow a vote on the measure.
