Jon Stewart gives 'charisma boy' Rubio tips for convention speech

By Ramsey Cox - 08/29/12 04:03 PM ET

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) told Jon Stewart Tuesday night that Mitt Romney had personally called him to break the news that Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) would be the vice presidential nominee.

Appearing on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," Rubio said he “admires” Romney. Rubio was reportedly on the short list as a running mate for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

Rubio will introduce Romney Thursday night at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., where Romney will officially accept the GOP nomination.

Rubio told Stewart he thought Romney would “give a great speech.”

Stewart asked if RNC officials told Rubio, “Hey, charisma boy, take it down a notch,” so that Rubio wouldn’t upstage Romney. Rubio responded that they just asked him to introduce the former governor and gave him 15 minutes to say whatever he wanted.

Stewart said he’d be willing to offer Rubio some suggestions on how to fill those 15 minutes, and Rubio jokingly accepted the offer.
