Women of the Senate to appear on the Democratic convention stage Wednesday

By Ramsey Cox - 09/05/12 03:01 PM ET

Democratic women of the Senate will take to the convention stage Wednesday evening in Charlotte, N.C., just as female Democrats in the House did Tuesday.

Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), the longest-serving female senator, is expected to speak for the group around 7:30 p.m., and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) is slotted to speak earlier in the evening, as well.

On Tuesday night, Democratic women of the House appeared on stage and a handful spoke. Female delegates on the convention hall stood and cheered as the lawmakers described different fights they’ve had in Congress and the help they've received from President Obama.

Obama has been polling well with female voters, a group that now votes in larger numbers than men. His campaign is hoping to win reelection with the help of female voters by portraying Republicans as worse for women’s rights, on issues such as abortion and healthcare.
