Senate resolution designates 'Fall Prevention Day'

By Ramsey Cox - 09/13/12 09:49 AM ET

The Senate passed a resolution Wednesday night that would designate Sept. 22, 2012, as "National Falls Prevention Awareness Day."

Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) introduced the measure to raise awareness and encourage the prevention of falls among older adults.

The resolution states that one out of three older adults in the United States falls each year.

The measure passed by unanimous consent and would encourage state health agencies to talk to one another about the best fall-prevention methods.

Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Bob Casey (D-Pa.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) are co-sponsors.
