Reid: Hispanic voters are better off with Obama than Romney

By Ramsey Cox - 09/20/12 09:50 AM ET

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney would be worse for Hispanic Americans than President Obama.

Reid brought up Romney’s comments about the “47 percent” of Americans relying on government programs.

“Unlike Gov. Romney, we know those using unemployment benefits are victims, not people not taking responsibility for themselves,” Reid said on the floor Thursday. “Mitt Romney was caught on tape telling wealthy donors that he’d win if he was Latino, but we know that’s not his problem.”

Reid said Obama is better for Latino business owners, students and the unemployed.

Reid said more than a quarter of Nevada’s population is Hispanic and that demographic is growing across the country.

“To insure our country thrives we need to make sure our Latino population thrives,” Reid said.
