Obama signs six-month spending resolution into law
President Obama signed into law a resolution that will allow the government to continue operating through late March.
The resolution, H.J.Res. 117, was passed earlier this month pursuant to an agreement between House and Senate leaders to level-fund the government through early next year, forestalling the risk of a government shutdown before the November elections.
Also Friday, Obama signed S. 3245, a bill that reauthorizes the E-Verify program, which lets companies determine whether potential new hires are eligible to work in the United States. That bill also extends an investor visa program, and a program allowing doctors to gain entry into the United States.
"I'm delighted that all the perseverance in the current difficult legislative environment paid off, and the new charter is in place right on time for investments like those just announced in Vermont," Leahy said.
