Senate passes resolution allowing donations in Capitol for victims of storm Sandy

The Senate passed a resolution Wednesday night to allow the solicitation of donations in the U.S. Capitol for victims of Superstorm Sandy.

The resolution, S.J. Res. 596, allows those working in the Capitol to ask for donations that would then go to people hit hardest by the storm that damaged parts of the Northeast.

At the end of the day, the Senate also passed by unanimous consent the Taking Essential Steps for Testing Act (H.R. 6118) and H.R. 6131, which extends the Undertaking Spam, Spyware And Fraud Enforcement With Enforcers beyond Borders (US SAFE WEB) Act.

Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.) introduced H.R. 6131 this summer to protect against Internet fraud and viruses. 

S. 6118, introduced by Rep. Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.), amends the Public Health Service Act to allow the secretary of Health and Human Services to amend the sanction on laboratories that don’t follow proper sample analysis procedures. 

Both measures passed in the House in September, meaning the bills now head to President Obama’s desk for his signature.
