Senate sends bill limiting reports on stimulus to president's desk

The Senate passed a bill to reduce the number of reports on stimulus spending by unanimous consent Thursday night before leaving the for Thanksgiving holiday.

H.R. 6570, introduced by Rep. Scott Garrett (R-N.J.), amends U.S. law to require less frequent, annual reports on stimulus spending and the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). The House passed the same measure Wednesday, meaning the bill will be sent to President Obama’s desk for his signature.

The Senate also passed S. 1440, the Preemie Reauthorization Act, by voice vote. 

Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) introduced the Prematurity Research Expansion and Education for Mothers who deliver Infants Early Reauthorization Act, which allows the Health and Human Services Ssecretary coordinate with the National Institutes of Health for research on the causes of preterm labor and delivery, tools to detect, prevent and reduce prevalence of preterm labor and delivery, and the care and treatment of preterm infants.

The Senate and House will be out next week for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Senate will resume work on the Sportsmen’s Act, which would increase access to federal land for hunters and fishermen while also supporting conservation measures, on Monday, Nov. 26.
