Wednesday: UN treaty in the Senate, Tip O'Neill in the House

By Pete Kasperowicz - 11/28/12 09:25 AM ET

The Senate meets at 10 a.m. to continue work on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities. The Senate voted to proceed to the treaty on Tuesday, and held some debate on it in the afternoon.

Three dozen Republicans have said they are opposed to consideration of the treaty during the lame duck, but if no others join the group, the Senate could approve the treaty this week.

The Senate might also consider S. 3254, the National Defense Authorization Act.

The House has a light day, with Republicans spending some time finalizing committee chairmen for the 113th Congress and members meeting at noon to work on up to eight suspension bills, all of which would name post offices or other federal buildings.

One of those bills, H.R. 6604, would name a federal building in Washington the Thomas P. O'Neill Jr. Federal Building, after the former House Speaker. This bill was introduced by Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

No roll-call votes are planned in the House for Wednesday, although some of the suspension bills could be approved by voice-vote.
