By Ramsey Cox - 11/30/12 03:02 PM ET

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) released the 2013 calendar for the Senate on Friday.

The 113th Congress will start when new members are sworn in on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013. Twelve new senators will join the Senate that day. Senate Democrats gained two seats, giving the party a 55-member majority.

Similar to previous years, the Senate will have state work periods surrounding the typical U.S. holidays, such as, President’s Day, Passover, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Columbus Day and Veterans’ Day.

The August recess will last for slightly more than a month, going from Aug. 5 to Sept. 6, 2013.

The House also released its schedule Friday.
