Reid marvels at Sen. Ben Nelson for having 'hair like a 15-year-old'

By Pete Kasperowicz - 12/10/12 03:33 PM ET

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday afternoon paid tribute to outgoing Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), who is retiring at the end of this Congress, and Nelson's famously thick hair.

Reid said that while people need to learn not to be envious of others, he said that "if the truth were known, many many senators would be very envious, as I am, and I would even think the presiding officer, about that hair of Ben Nelson's."

"I mean, that is a mop of real hair," Reid continued, adding that many believe Nelson is wearing a toupee. "It's his hair. He'll pull it for you any time just to show you that it's real.

"I mean, he has hair like a 15-year-old, Mr. President," Reid said. "And so, I have to acknowledge, I am a little envious of his hair."

Reid was speaking to Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), who was acting as the presiding officer and if anything has even more reason to be jealous of Nelson's hair than Reid. But Reid offered a compliment to the very bald Leahy as well.

"My wife ... tells me all the time how handsome Pat Leahy is and is so glad he doesn't do a comb-over," Reid said.
