Senate passes bill telling TSA to give unclaimed clothes to homeless vets, other measures

By Ramsey Cox - 12/11/12 07:56 PM ET

The Senate passed several bills by unanimous consent Tuesday night, one of which would give unclaimed clothes recovered at airports to homeless veterans.

Rep. Kathleen Hochul (D-N.Y.) introduced the Clothe a Homeless Hero Act, H.R. 6328. The bill would direct the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to give unclaimed clothing recovered at airport security checkpoints to local veterans organizations or other charitable groups for distribution to homeless or needy veterans and their families.

The Senate also passed two House bills amending financial regulations.

Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.) introduced H.R. 4014, which amends the Federal Deposit Insurance Act to allow more information sharing with the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection.

Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-Mo.) introduced H.R. 4367, to amend the Electronic Fund Transfer Act to limit the fee disclosure requirement for an automatic teller machine (ATM) to the screen of that machine rather than requiring the fee disclosure to appear in a prominent location on the ATM.

The Senate passed a handful of other measures before adjourning for the evening. Details on those measures follow:

- Passed H.R. 2467, the Bridgeport Indian Colony Land Trust, Health, and Economic Development Act, a bill to take certain federal lands in Mono County, Calif., into trust for the benefit of the Bridgeport Indian Colony.

- Passed S. 3564, the Public Interest Declassification Board Reauthorization Act, a bill to extend the Public Interest Declassification Act of 2000 until 2014 to allow public comments until 2018.

- Passed H.R. 3319, a bill to allow the Pascua Yaqui Tribe to determine the requirements for membership in that tribe.
