Tuesday: John Kerry, reporting for duty
The Senate meets at 10 a.m. for speeches, and at some point in the day is expected to vote on the nomination of Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) to be secretary of State.
Kerry himself may well spend the day not voting. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which he chairs, will meet at 10 a.m. to vote on Kerry's nomination. The nomination is expected to pass through the committee, even without Kerry's vote.
Sometime after the weekly caucus lunches, Kerry's nomination is expected to come to the Senate floor. The last senator to be confirmed as secretary of State was Hillary Clinton, who didn't vote on her own nomination four years ago this month.
As of late Monday, the Senate had not set a specific time for the nomination vote, but a time could be announced by Senate leaders in the morning. No other roll call votes are scheduled for Tuesday.
