Reid said the Senate would begin consideration of Jewell’s nomination at 4 p.m. and proceed to a vote after two hours of debate.

Jewell is the head of outdoor gear giant REI, Inc. and would replace outgoing Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee approved Jewell with a bipartisan 19-3 vote last month.
