Barrasso: Obama’s healthcare law is a ‘train wreck’

Barrasso said the “terrible” law would grow government bureaucracy and that President Obama proved as much in his own budget proposal.

“The president’s budget makes it very clear that this healthcare law is bad for the American taxpayers,” Barrasso said. “No body has ever told me that the problem is that we don’t have enough Washington bureaucrats, but that’s exactly what we’re going to get.”

Barrasso said the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) budget would increase by $118 billion under Obama’s 2014 budget and that the Internal Revenue Service would need an additional $440 million to hire nearly 2,000 more employees to enforce the healthcare law.

Parts of the Affordable Care Act are set to take effect in 2014. GOP members have continued to criticize the law, saying it will harm the economy by requiring employers to provide health insurance and drive up insurance costs for families.
