“Childhood is a time for growing bodies and growing hearts. … It’s a time for wondrous stories of Neverland and board games, … a time to live without pain and a burden of responsibility,” Fisher said pausing when she was overcome with emotion. “Too many children in this country are forced to grow up too quickly.

“One such child is a friend of mine. He is a personal hero. His name is Jack Hoffman.”

Fischer said Hoffman, a 7-year-old boy in her home state, suffers from brain cancer and has had limited treatment options because of a lack of research into the disease. 

Fischer said her resolution not only designates a day to pediatric brain cancer, but also encourages improvements in diagnoses and treatment options.
