Senate passes resolution calling for 'credible' elections in Afghanistan

Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) introduced the resolution, which was passed in a unanimous consent agreement.

American forces are scheduled to exit Afghanistan in 2014.

The Senate also confirmed a few foreign relations nominees by unanimous consent before adjourning for the evening. A list of those nominees follows:

- Daniel R. Russel to be an Assistant Secretary of State (East Asian and Pacific Affairs).

- Geoffrey R. Pyatt, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Ukraine.

- Tulinabo Salama Mushingi, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Counselor, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Burkina Faso.
