Senate passes bill renaming part of tax code after Kay Bailey Hutchison

Last month, the House passed the bill on a voice-vote.

The Senate also passed H.Con.Res. 43, allowing the use of Emancipation Hall in the Capitol for Nelson Mandela’s birthday. The South African leader has grown increasingly ill over the past few weeks.

S.Res. 191 also passed by unanimous consent and designates July 27, 2013, as the National Day of the American Cowboy.

The Senate will return Monday and continue the contentious fight over some of President Obama’s Cabinet nominees. Reid has threatened to use the “nuclear option” — changing the Senate rules on a simple-majority vote — in order to thwart Republican efforts to block some of the president’s Cabinet nominees.
