Leahy holds hearing on privacy rights, surveillance programs

The hearing comes weeks after a former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor, Edward Snowden, leaked information on a FISA program that logged U.S. citizens phone records.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) has been a vocal critic of the privacy violations, proposing that lawmakers revisit the Patriot Act, which increased domestic surveillance programs.

On Tuesday, the members of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee will hear testimony from Securities and Exchange Commission Chairwoman Mary Jo White. White will testify about risks in the financial market since Wall Street reforms.
