Blumenthal: FDA must stop tobacco companies that ‘kill kids’

Blumenthal called for a Senate hearing on the FDA’s efforts to stop tobacco companies from marketing flavored products to youth.

“A new generation of smokers — enticed by chocolate, strawberry and other flavors, along with long used menthol — are beginning lives of addiction and disease, while the FDA deliberates and decides,” Blumenthal said. “I will seek hearings and additional action when Congress returns to prompt countermeasures and end procrastination.”

Blumenthal said Congress gave the FDA power to regulate the “public health menace,” known as the tobacco industry, and demanded that the administration act to stop young people from becoming new smokers.
