Senate Chaplain berates lawmakers for ‘smugness’

Lawmakers are still at an impasse on how to pass a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government. The government has been shut down since midnight Tuesday.

“Deliver us from the hypocrisy of attempting to sound reasonable while being unreasonable,” Black said. “Remove the burdens of those who offer collateral damage of this government shutdown, transforming negatives into positives and work for the good of those who love you.”

It's unclear where the fight will go from here, with both sides digging in for the first government shutdown since 1996.
