Senate hearing focuses on federal workers furloughed during shutdown

Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced a bill that would ensure all federal workers who are not being paid during the government shutdown be paid retroactively. A similar measure was introduced in the House as well.

Some committees are canceling their hearings because chairmen have had to furlough their staff that set up the events.

Lawmakers are still at an impasse on how to pass a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government. It's unclear where the fight will go from here, with both sides digging in for the first government shutdown since 1996.
