Lawmakers are still at an impasse on how to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government, which has been shutdown for a week. House Republicans have tried to use the funding measure to defund and repeal parts of ObamaCare, but Senate Democrats have said the House needs to pass a “clean” CR without any riders.

“These guys can’t see past their political noses,” Tester said. “If in fact the Speaker of the House put the clean resolution up it would pass in the House. … Prove us wrong.”

Republicans have talked about trying to use the debt ceiling increase to get their way on ObamaCare since it hasn't worked with funding the government. The Department of Treasury has said the nation will reach its borrowing cap on Oct. 17.

Tester said Republicans are “playing with fire” if they add political amendments to any measure increasing the debt ceiling.
