In what could be a sign of a major development in ongoing debt-ceiling negotiations, Democratic leadership will schedule a vote for 5:30 p.m. that would request the presence of every senator in the chamber, sources told The Hill Saturday afternoon. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) completed a meeting with President Obama at the White House at 5:05 p.m. The procedural vote in the Senate would instruct the body's sergeant-at-arms to request the presence of absent senators to the Capitol. Republicans have repeatedly called Reid to move up a vote on his debt-ceiling legislation that is currently scheduled for 1 a.m. on Sunday but the majority leader has refused unless they agree to set a mere majority threshold for the vote. This story was updated at 5:12 p.m.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) moved to bring his own deficit reduction legislation to the Senate floor Friday night following a vote to table the Boehner proposal passed by the House earlier in the evening.
The first vote on Reid’s proposal could take place as soon as 1 a.m. on Sunday.
Reid’s plan would cut $2.7 trillion from the deficit over the next decade and would not raise any new revenue or make cuts to Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security. It would raise the debt ceiling through 2012.
