Brown: Congress can do more on job training

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) praised President Obama’s initiative to improve worker training, but said Congress can do more to help by passing his bill. 

“The administration’s initiative is an important step towards addressing our country’s skills gap,” Brown said. “Congress can continue this progress by passing my bipartisan legislation which would strengthen job training efforts.”

Shaheen calls for federal help to address heroin ‘epidemic’

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) said the federal government needs to be doing more to help states deal with heroin and prescription drug addiction.

“We must work together at the local, state and federal level to stop this troubling trend that is hurting our communities and claiming too many lives,” Shaheen said in a press release.

McCain: NATO allies must spend 2 percent of GDP on defense

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said NATO members needed to spend at least 2 percent of their GDP on defense in order to stop Russia from invading neighboring countries.

“Considering what President Putin is doing right now in Ukraine, it is more important than ever for every NATO ally to spend at least 2 percent of its GDP on defense,” McCain said.
