Lawmaker: No more aid to Egypt in wake of 'sham trial' against US citizens

Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) on Tuesday morning called on President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry to push back on Egypt's decision to sentence several Americans to jail time, including Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood's son.

Egypt on Tuesday morning sentenced Sam LaHood to five years in prison for his work with nonprofit pro-democracy groups in Egypt. Press reports say 15 other Americans received sentences, although all but one of these Americans have already left Egypt, and were tried in absentia.

Bill proposes public website to organize IG reports documenting government waste, fraud, abuse

As the number of explosive Inspector General reports detailing government waste and mismanagement pile up, some House Republicans are proposing that the government create a new website that makes it easier to find and read these reports.

Rep. Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) on Monday proposed the Sunshine on Government Act, H.R. 2221, which would require the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to manage the new site.

Tuesday: Sexual assault in the military, 2014 spending bills, and deeming the budget

The House meets at 10 a.m. for speeches, and at noon it will work on a bill addressing benefits for sexually abused veterans, and spending bills for 2014.

The Ruth Moore Act, H.R. 671, would remove an obstacle some veterans face in getting disability benefits if they are victims of sexual assault in the military.

House honors Lautenberg with resolution, tribute from NJ members

The House late Monday approved a resolution marking the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), who died early this morning at the age of 89.

The resolution, H.Res. 242, notes the House's "profound sorrow" at Lautenberg's death, and says that when the House adjourns Monday, it will do so "as a further mark of respect to the memory of the deceased senator."

House passes duck stamp, animal drug user fee bills

The House on Monday evening approved two suspension bills in easy votes. They are:

H.R. 1206, the Permanent Electronic Duck Stamp Act, allowing duck stamps, which help fund conservation efforts, to be purchased online. Members approved this bill in a 401-0 vote.

Senate approves House bill to recognize Vietnam Memorial donors

The Senate approved a House bill that would recognize those who made donations to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

On Monday, the Senate agreed to pass the Vietnam Veterans Donor Acknowledgment Act by unanimous consent.

Senate votes for a farm bill amendment to study alfalfa farming risks

The Senate approved a farm bill amendment that would require a study on risk management of growing alfalfa.

On Monday, the Senate voted 72-18 for an amendment introduced by Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.). His amendment requires the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation to carry out research and development regarding a crop insurance program for alfalfa. He said his amendment had no cost to taxpayers.
