Rep. Peter King refuses to meet prostitute in Secret Service scandal

By Erik Wasson - 05/13/12 11:50 AM ET

Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) has refused a request to meet with the Colombian prostitute at the center of a Secret Service scandal.

The chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security said Sunday that the meeting is not necessary.

“Late last Thursday, an attorney for Dania Londono Suarez contacted Committee staff and requested that I meet with his client in my office. While such a meeting -- and the inevitable circus atmosphere surrounding it -- would no doubt be of great interest to the media covering this story, a meeting with her is simply not necessary at this time for the Committee to conduct a serious and thorough investigation,” King said.

Multiple Secret Service employees have been reprimanded or let go in the wake of revelations they consorted with prostitutes while protecting President Obama during a trip to Cartagena, Colombia in April. The Obama administration issued new rules for the president's bodyguards, forbidding them from visiting prostitutes or drinking before reporting for work.

“For now, I have directed my staff to communicate with and gather information about the misconduct from the woman via her attorney,” King said.

King said that he understands the Secret Service itself has now interviewed Suarez.

“During her interview with the Secret Service, Ms. Suarez acknowledged that at no time did she have access to any sensitive information whatsoever and had no idea that she had been involved with a Secret Service agent,” he said.
