“We look forward to the elections in May,” the U.S. official said. “And as soon as there’s a government in place, I think you can expect to see Secretary Kerry there.”
Kerry warned off trip to Pakistan ahead of elections
The announcement comes one day after military dictator turned president Pervez Musharraf, a strong U.S. ally last decade who was deeply unpopular at home, ended four years of self-imposed exile in London and Dubai to run for office. He is expected to fare much worse than former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan and even the current unpopular government of President Asif Ali Zardari.
