Tuesday's global agenda: Kerry gets State
Your morning global affairs speed-read
The Senate is expected to easily approve Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) to be the next secretary of State both in committee and on the Senate floor today. Kerry, the outgoing chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is expected to be easily confirmed after Republicans all but urged President Obama to nominate him in lieu of his ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice.
The United Nations' special envoy for Syria is expected today to deliver a bleak assessment of the chance for a peaceful end to the 22-month-old uprising, The Washington Post reports.
Hillary Clinton holds a “Global Town Hall” with reporters from around the world at the Newseum. This will be her 59th and final town hall as she prepares to turn over the reins to Kerry on Friday. Watch it live here.
The Center for Global Development and Foreign Policy magazine award the 2012 Commitment to Development "Ideas in Action" Award to former Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.) this afternoon.

The State Department announced that the first meeting of the Environmental Affairs Council and the Environmental Cooperation Commission established as part of negotiations leading up to the free trade agreement with South Korea will be held Feb. 14.
Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman is lobbying for Saudi Arabia's “King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy” (KACARE).
Tourism Ireland Limited is using an in-house lobbyist to work on issues regarding "distribution of tourism literature for the promotion of tourism to the the island of Ireland. Activities include calling travel agents, contacting groups with a view to promoting trips to Ireland and contact with travel editors of newspapers and magazines."
