White House withdraws ambassador nomination after drunk driving report
The White House withdrew the nomination of Timothy Broas, who was nominated by President Obama for the ambassadorship of the Netherlands.
Broas, one of the president's top fundraisers, was allegedly charged with drunk driving and resisting arrest earlier this month.
The Center for Public Integrity reported the alleged drunk driving charges on Friday, saying Broas, 58, was arrested in suburban Maryland on June 19th.
Court records said Broas, a lawyer, was "attempting to drive [a] vehicle while under the influence of alcohol." The records also show that Broas, who was pulled over for speeding, allegedly faces criminal charges for resisting arrest.
Eric Schultz, a White House spokesman, told The Hill that Broas withdrew his nomination "for personal reasons."
"Tim Broas has a long and distinguished career and was a strong nominee. He withdrew his nomination for personal reasons and we wish him the best," Schultz said.
