McCain: ‘Important that Romney go to Israel’

By Ben Geman - 07/08/12 12:03 PM ET

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) thinks GOP White House hopeful Mitt Romney made the right call by planning a trip to Israel later this summer.

“I really think it is important that Romney go to Israel, particularly since these are . . . very dangerous times as you know,” McCain said Sunday on the CBS program “Face the Nation.”

“The talks with Iran predictably have failed and we are facing what could be a very serious crisis between Israel and Iran,” added McCain, who backs Romney's candidacy.

The Romney team sees Israeli relations as a potential weakness for President Obama, and the planned visit has won praise from other Republicans as well.
