Israel says it is prepared 'as never before' for war with Iran
Israel’s outgoing defense minister declared in an interview with the Maariv newspaper today that his country was prepared “as never before” for a war with Iran, reports Agence France-Presse.
Matan Vilnai, who is set to become the country’s ambassador to China, predicted that any Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities would result in a 30-day war on multiple fronts. Civilian casualties could rise as high as 500 as the small nation would endure missile strikes targeting its population centers.
“It could be that there will be less fatalities, but it could be there will be more, that is the scenario that we are preparing for according to the best experts,” Vilnai said.
“The United States is our greatest friend and we must always coordinate such things with it,” he said.
Tensions have been rising as speculation has grown that Israel might strike Iran’s nuclear facilities. Israel and the United States believe that the facilities are being used in an attempt to gain a nuclear weapon, a charge that Tehran denies.
