Report: Clinton to return to work Monday
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will return to work Monday for the first time since suffering an illness and later being hospitalized for a blood clot.
The department’s weekly schedule said Clinton will meet with her assistant secretaries of State at a Monday morning meeting, according to reports.
Clinton was admitted to New York City’s Presbyterian Hospital on Dec. 30, after doctors discovered a blood clot in her head. Physicians believe it resulted from a concussion she suffered earlier last month, when the secretary was suffering from a stomach flu.
Clinton was kept under observation for 48 hours and received anticoagulants to treat the condition. She was released from the hospital last Wednesday and her doctors said she was expected to make a full recovery.
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said last week that Clinton was “looking forward to getting back to the office.”
Clinton is expected to step down from her post as the nation’s top diplomat early in President Obama’s second term, with Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) nominated to succeed her.
But her return will also likely spur further calls from GOP lawmakers for her to testify before Congress on the administration’s handling of the deadly September attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
Clinton had been slated to testify in December, but sent two senior aides in her place after her concussion. The secretary has said she is open to meeting with lawmakers.
