Launch date set for first 'inside account' of Clinton's tenure at State

By Julian Pecquet - 02/26/13 01:06 PM ET

What's being billed as the “first inside account” of Hillary Clinton's four-year tenure at the State Department will be officially launched next week.

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is hosting the launch of BBC State Department Correspondent Kim Ghattas's book, The Secretary: A Journey with Hillary Clinton from Beirut to the Heart of American Power, next Monday. Ghattas, who was born in Lebanon, has covered the State Department since 2008 after reporting from the Middle East for the BBC and the Financial Times.

The book offers a close-up view of Clinton's tenure amid growing speculation that she will run for president in 2016. Clinton's admirers point to the one million miles she's traveled and the 112 countries she's visited as proof of her tireless advocacy for U.S. interests, while her critics say she's achieved nothing of substance while bungling the response to last year's attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.
