Sen. Chambliss dismisses controversy over 'Zero Dark Thirty'

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) doesn't see why there's so much fuss around the film "Zero Dark Thirty."

The film tells the story of the Navy SEAL team that killed Osama bin Laden. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and other Democrats have criticized the film for its depiction of torture, and for depicting torture as helpful in tracking bin Laden.

Chambliss — who could face a primary challenge next year — said the film didn't bother him.

"Congressional criticism of ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ from both sides of the interrogation debate strikes me as odd—it is entertainment, not a documentary. What’s next—a Senate inquiry of the ‘Bourne’ trilogy or ‘24’?" Chambliss asked in a statement.

He also said the CIA has confirmed that some of the sources who led the U.S. to bin Laden were, in fact, tortured.

Democrats have asked the CIA to provide more information about the manhunt and its cooperation with "Zero Dark Thirty" director Kathryn Bigelow. That information has already been provided to the Senate Intelligence Committee, Chambliss said.

"Those documents and testimony provided to the Committee support the Acting CIA Director’s message to the workforce that “multiple streams of intelligence led CIA analysts to conclude that Bin Ladin was hiding in Abbottabad” and some of that information came “from detainees subjected to enhanced techniques," he said.
