GOP announces intel panel picks

By Julian Pecquet - 02/08/13 12:39 PM ET

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) unveiled on Friday the list of 12 Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee for the new Congress.

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) retains the chairmanship, while Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) is the only new member of the panel. He replaces former Rep. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.), who retired.

"Mike will be an outstanding addition to the House Intelligence Committee," Rogers said in a statement. "He is a graduate of West Point and Harvard Law School, and is a solid leader who serves Kansas well."

The panel will hold its organizational meeting and adopt its rules on Wednesday.

“Our nation’s intelligence community faces the daunting challenge of keeping Americans safe against rogue states and terrorist enemies that are determined to undermine our freedom and security," Boehner said in a statement. "The members appointed to the Intelligence Committee today are charged with the sacred task of supporting that mission by ensuring the intelligence community has the resources and tools it needs to stay ahead of the evolving threats we face, and by conducting effective oversight of the administration. I thank Mike for his strong leadership as chairman, and look forward to working with all of the members of the committee.”

The members are:

• Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), Chairman

• Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Texas)

• Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.)

• Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas)

• Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.)

• Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-N.J.)

• Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.)

• Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.)

• Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.)

• Rep. Tom Rooney (R-Fla.)

• Rep. Joe Heck (R-Nev.)

• Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.)
