Sen. Dan Coats (R-Ind.) introduced a resolution Wednesday that calls on President Obama to isolate Russia through sanctions in order to protect Ukraine’s sovereignty.
The resolution also urges the leadership of FIFA to reconsider its decision to place World Cup 2018 matches in Russia and instead award these games to “a more worthy alternative country.”

The resolution “calls on the Administration to work with our European allies and other countries to impose visa, financial, trade, and other sanctions on senior Russian Federation officials, majority state-owned banks and commercial organizations, and other state agencies, as appropriate.”
New Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) said his panel is looking down many economic avenues to convince Russia to step back from its move into Crimea.
In his first hearing as the head of the committee, Wyden said his committee is "now looking at every possible economic lever to pressure Russia to step back from its unprovoked incursion into Crimea."

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Wednesday that President Obama’s lack of leadership has “eroded” America’s credibility globally, making it more difficult for the United States to help Ukraine.
“This president has eroded American credibility in the world,” McConnell said on the Senate floor. “We can now put to rest for good any notion that the relationship with Russia has been reset."
