News bites: Shutdown deadline approaches at midnight

Negotiators worked deeped into Friday morning but failed to hammer out a deal to avoid a government shutdown, which could hinge on Planned Parenthood funding, The Hill’s Russell Berman writes.

The Department of Health and Human Services on Friday released a first-of-its-kind report on reducing healhcare disparities among poor and minority populations, The Associated Press writes.

Two senators are leading a push to publish data on what individual doctors earn from Medicare, The Wall Street Journal writes.

About one in four U.S. adults is covered by Medicare, Medicaid or military/veteran benefits, UPI writes.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) signed into law a 2012 budget that cuts $500 million from its Medicaid program, the Arizona Republic reports.
