Planned Parenthood slams Alabama abortion bill

By Elise Viebeck

Planned Parenthood's political arm denounced a bill in Alabama placing new restrictions on abortion clinics as the latest in a rising trend of anti-abortion-rights legislation around the country.

Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, called on Gov. Robert Bentley (R-Ala.) to veto the bill, which would require abortion doctors to maintain admitting privileges at a local hospital.

"This bill does nothing to protect the health of Alabama women. It aims to limit women’s access to safe and legal abortion," Richards said in a statement.

North Dakota lawmakers push new attack on Planned Parenthood

By Sam Baker

Planned Parenthood is fighting to save a sex-education program in North Dakota that is under attack just as the state has passed the most restrictive abortion law in the country.

Dems fundraising off nation's strictest abortion law

By Elise Viebeck

Democrats in North Dakota are already raising funds off a new state law that bans abortions at about six weeks of fetal development, the earliest cut-off point in the nation.

The North Dakota Democratic Party asked supporters for donations just hours after Gov. Jack Dalrymple (R) signed the so-called "heartbeat" ban into law.

"North Dakota has passed some of the most extreme legislation in the country, effectively limiting women's rights to make her own private healthcare choices," said Rania Batrice, communications director with the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party, in a statement.
