Susan Komen for the Cure pushes enhanced Medicaid funding

By Julian Pecquet - 06/15/10 05:01 PM ET

An unexpected source has added its voice to the chorus of states asking for $24 billion in enhanced Medicaid payments: Susan Komen for the Cure. The organization's vice president of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Jennifer Luray, writes on the Huffington Post that "women's lives are at stake" as the Senate takes up the tax extenders bill this week.

"Without the extension, states must make further cuts to vital state services, including investments in potentially life-saving breast cancer screening services for under-served women," Luray writes. "Without these services, many of the otherwise-eligible women will not get regular screenings."
