House Dems announce hearing to examine CMS' new 'meaningful use' rule

By Mike Lillis - 07/13/10 04:30 PM ET

The House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee will hold a hearing next week to examine Medicare's "meaningful use" guidelines, Chairman Pete Stark (D-Calif.) announced Tuesday.

Those guidelines, unveiled by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), will dictate eligibility for federal incentive payments as doctors and hospitals adopt e-prescribing practices and electronic health records.

The Ways and Means hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday at 1 p.m. Witnesses have not yet been announced.
