Michelle Obama/Jill Biden video touts preventive care, healthcare reform

By Julian Pecquet - 07/19/10 04:17 PM ET

The White House on Monday released a new video featuring first lady Michelle Obama and second lady Jill Biden touting the benefits of healthcare reform. The video expounds on the preventative care benefits mandated by the reform bill and invites viewers to visit HealthCare.gov.

The Obama administration announced new regulations last week that mandate health plans cover preventive care without charging co-pays. The regulations apply to new plans starting Sept. 23.

“Last week,” Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a statement announcing the video, “I joined the First Lady and Dr. Jill Biden — two of our country’s top health leaders — to announce that starting in the fall, all new health insurance plans will be required to cover recommended preventive services with no deductible, copay or coinsurance. The First Lady and Dr. Biden wanted to help raise awareness about this provision of the new law, so they made this video.”
