Nevada GOP hopeful: Cost, not access, is problem with country's healthcare system

By Mike Lillis - 08/10/10 06:09 PM ET

Sharron Angle, the Republican challenging Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) in Nevada, said this week that the cost of healthcare, not a lack of access to services, is the trouble plaguing the nation's healthcare system.

"I think we get confused a little bit," Angle told a local reporter over the weekend. "Our healthcare system is the best in the world. There's nothing wrong with our healthcare system. Our doctors are the best."

The local reporter asked, "But how many people get access to the best healthcare in the world?"

Angle responded: "The access is not what is being denied. It is the cost that has become prohibitive and that's what we need to address."

Angle did not mention what factor, outside of cost, might be impeding access to care.
