House GOP to hammer health law in 9/11 hearing

By Elise Viebeck - 09/04/12 03:27 PM ET

A prominent House committee will continue its case against the healthcare law just one day after the conclusion of August recess.

On Sept. 11, the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight will look at how the law's implementation could strain the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The GOP-led House has held more than 30 votes to dismantle the healthcare law and countless hearings skeptical of the reform.

The activity quieted somewhat after the Supreme Court upheld the law June 28, but criticism of the Affordable Care Act has become a mainstay on the campaign trail for lawmakers and Mitt Romney, the GOP nominee.

Tuesday's hearing will focus on the law's tax provisions and its implementation by the IRS.

"Under President Obama’s healthcare law, the IRS is now charged with administering much of the healthcare law," said Oversight subcommittee chairman Charles Boustany (R-La.) in a statement.

"It is imperative that we take a close look at these new duties and consider the impact they will have on the agency and the taxpayers it serves."

A witness list was not released.
