Insurers: Health law still flawed

By Sam Baker - 11/07/12 10:23 AM ET

The health insurance industry congratulated President Obama on Wednesday but said certain pieces of his signature healthcare law should still be repealed or changed.

Obama's victory ensures that the Affordable Care Act will not be repealed in its entirety. But many of the biggest provisions don't kick in until 2014, and insurers still want to see targeted changes.

"As the healthcare reform law is implemented, policymakers must prioritize affordability for consumers and employers," America's Health Insurance Plans said in a statement. "Several provisions in the law, such as the new premium tax, minimum coverage requirements and age rating restrictions need to be addressed to keep coverage as affordable as possible and ensure broad participation in the system."
