Club for Growth says spending bills must defund health law
The conservative Club for Growth is pushing lawmakers to oppose upcoming spending bills that do not defund President Obama's healthcare law.
On Friday, the group threatened to score against the vote for the next continuing resolution (CR) unless the bill makes dramatic cuts to the law's implementation.
Club for Growth circulated a "Dear Colleague" letter from Reps. Jim Bridenstine (R-Okla.) and Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.) urging House GOP leadership to help "restore patient-centered healthcare in America."
The move comes as other House conservatives signal support for a six-month CR that would not include controversial riders, like a provision to defund the Affordable Care Act.
Any CR at the "post-sequester level" is a "big win," said former Republican Study Committee (RSC) chairman Jim Jordan (Ohio).
“I support the approach,” current RSC Chairman Steve Scalise (La.) said Tuesday.
