GOP doctors vow to push healthcare repeal, warn of rationing
Members of the GOP Doctors Caucus promised Tuesday to back repeal of President Obama's healthcare law at "every choke point" ahead of the fiscal deadlines now facing Washington.
Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) said the GOP should go "full monty" on full or partial repeal at every turn. He and his colleagues argued the law will harm the economy and lead to "rationing" of healthcare as it's implemented.
"This will structurally change the practice of medicine," said Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.), another GOP doctor. "There will be financial incentives for physician gatekeepers to actually limit care."
The GOP lawmakers spoke on a call with reporters Tuesday. Several expressed disappointment that the latest House-passed bill to fund the government did not repeal healthcare reform.
Gingrey described how some Republican lawmakers are hesitant to back a partial repeal bill, worrying that it would make the rest of the law "palatable."
"But I think we should go full monty at chipping away at it … and weaken it, and weaken it, and weaken it," he said.
Lawmakers are working on a continuing resolution deal that would last through September, and the debt ceiling has to be raised this summer.
Tuesday's call was organized by FreedomWorks, a prominent Tea Party group.
