Bachmann vows continued fight against 'socialized medicine' at rally

By Julian Pecquet - 03/27/12 12:09 PM ET

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), the original sponsor of legislation to repeal the Obama administration’s healthcare law, caused a stir Tuesday morning when she addressed a Tea Party rally at the Supreme Court.

As defenders of the legislation tried to speak over her, the former presidential candidate drew cheers from her supporters, vowing to continue fighting for the law's repeal regardless of what the court decides.

"We have not raised the white flag of surrender on socialized medicine," she said. "We are grateful that this day has come. This is one of the most important, consequential decisions that will ever come before this court."

Supporters and opponents of the healthcare reform law converged on the court Tuesday, as justices heard arguments on the central aspect of the case, the constitutionality of the individual mandate.

Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and Steve King (R-Iowa), and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) are also expected to address Tea Party groups rallying before the court on Tuesday.
