Pain docs set to swarm the Hill
More than 100 pain doctors will gather on Capitol Hill next week to lobby lawmakers on health technology reforms and reimbursement hikes.
The physicians, representing the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP) and the North American Neuromodulation Society, say they'll be pushing lawmakers to increase rates for ambulatory surgery centers and provide funding for an electronic database — the so-called NASPER program — designed to fight prescription drug abuse.
Combined, the groups say they represent more than 4,000 physicians nationwide.
The lawmakers scheduled to address the entire group Tuesday, according to ASIPP, include Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and David Vitter (R-La.), and Reps. Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.), Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Ben Chandler (D-Ky.), Geoff Davis (R-Ky.), Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Steve Kagen (D-Wis.).
